GIACOMO MARCHIORI

My name is Giacomo Marchiori, I’m a winemaker. I was born and grew up in Alto Piemonte, in the village of Cossato. From my family I inherited the passion for these hills and growing up I fell in love with wine as a way to transpose the essence of a terroir, of a place, into a glass. In 2015 I founded a small winery that bears my name with the aim of creating products that reflect myself, my values, my emotions.

I cultivate some old vineyards in three small villages in the Coste della Sesia region, a small appellation between the provinces of Biella and Vercelli. That are small parcels that I first rented and then bought from old winemakers who trusted me and saw their same passion in me. By listening to their stories, studying and investigating, I understood the value of these lands, their history and how important it was to enhance and bring prestige to the wine produced here.

VINEYARD AND CELLAR

I cultivate about a hectare and a half of vineyards, between old and new plants. I do not use herbicides in the vineyard and I carry out all the cultivation operations manually, from the winter pruning to the choice of shoots, to the harvest. The soils vary from vineyard to vineyard, from the porphyritic sands of the “Ardemo” vineyard to the richer soils of Castellengo. The proximity of the pre-Alps guarantees an ideal climate, with high temperature variations between day and night which guarantee perfect ripening. In addition to Spanna, the typical Nebbiolo of Northern Piedmont, native grapes such as Vespolina, Croatina, Freisa and Neretti ripen in the old vineyards.

In the cellar the approach is the least interventionist possible, with traditional macerations in steel or oak vats, no clarification. The aging in the historical cellar is in French oak barrels, with the aim of elevating the wines in elegance and finesse.

THE WINES

The essence of the terroir, the Nebbiolo of Northern Piedmont. Sapidity, elegance, structure, from the best
grapes from the historical vineyards of Castellengo and Mottalciata.

The farmer’s wine reinterpreted in a modern key, in a perfect balance between rigor and drinkability.
Nebbiolo thus meets the typical grapes of the old vineyards which guarantee a fresh and pleasant drink.

My idea of Rosato, a fine and elegant summer wine.
The result of a precise harvest choice made of selected vineyards, thinning and bleeding of the best Spanna tanks.
